Digital Piano Vs Acoustic Piano – Know Which is Better

Piano was invented about 500 years ago and since then, it has undergone many improvements and different piano styles are now available. The digital piano is very popular with the latest technology. But the question arises whether the acoustic Piano or the digital Piano is the right one. It depends upon the taste of the individual and the budget that he or she can afford. Both the types have advantages and disadvantages as stated hereunder.

Acoustic Piano:

The Acoustic Piano has a complicated structure, pressing the key results in a hammer hitting a string. The string then vibrates and produces the sound. The sound is amplified by the sound board of the Piano. This is a true Piano sound, relished by many at concerts and recitals. But an acoustic Piano is large in size and it is expensive. It requires a lot of space in a room for keeping.

Whenever the Piano is moved and when there are changes in weather, the acoustic Piano needs regular tuning. It allows the player to play softly or loudly. Affordable acoustic Pianos will develop flaws early and are not desirable for purchase.

Digital Piano:

Being a replica of acoustic Piano, digital Piano uses the recorded notes from a real Piano instead of strings and the usual mechanism to produce sound. It uses electronic circuitry to produce Piano sounds. It is much cheaper, lighter and smaller in size. There is wide range of feature, like down tracks and recorded notes, from different instruments and types of Pianos. It is portable and musicians find it easy to carry the digital Pianos with them. The digital Piano does not require tuning and it is useful in humid areas and areas where weather changes drastically.

The digital has very little sensitivity and hence true interpretation of many Piano pieces is impossible. Some Piano teachers will not come forward to teach with digital Pianos.

Acoustic Pianos are considered better but digital Pianos have come to stay due to many advantages they offer as stated above.
